A call to collect stories and ideas of frugal innovation for post-pandemic reconstruction

The Call Alternative was born following the emergency Covid-19

Frugal innovations are solutions with high efficiency and maximum impact (bring tangible value and direct to the end user), low cost and easy to replicate, durable in time, low environmental impact and, finally, created to generate shared social value within the community.

How has the context in which we live changed?

In a few weeks, the Covid-19 emergency has upset our communities. The times and spaces around which our days were organized have suddenly changed. The epidemic has affected individuals and communities, questioning the complex network of values and narratives that we had built. Shopping, going to the pharmacy, studying: what used to be normal activities that filled our days, have become complex, especially for people in conditions of solitude and difficulty. Citizens, associations and institutions have mobilized to find a solution to the many emergencies of these months: when the storm passes, the time will come to rebuild and reinvent, trying to understand how emergency solutions and new ideas can contribute to imagine a society that, in many respects, will be different.

To whom he addresses

The call is open to individuals, associations, startups and informal groups resident or domiciled throughout the national territory.

The same subject can present more than one idea, even in collaboration (formally or informally constituted) with different subjects.

Why participate?

The Call Alternative has two objectives:

- Explore and map the stories of frugal solutions that, during the emergency, have proposed simple and effective solutions to common problems.

- Stimulate the production of new frugal ideas for post-emergency reconstruction.


Both categories (stories of ideas already put into practice during the crisis and new ideas for reconstruction) must be frugal innovations, characterized by the use of few resources but great ingenuity and spirit of adaptation.


The awards

The best stories of frugal solutions during the emergency will be told and enhanced through communication campaigns of the network promoting the call. The three best ideas of frugal innovation for reconstruction will be accompanied in a path of incubation and development offered by the incubator Primo Miglio.
